Deutz Generator - Forum - Historic Commercial Vehicle Club
I was given an old Deutz Genny with an A2L - 514 2Cyl Deutz.
Is there a Starting procedure to be folllowed for these, as i cannot find a De-Compresion Lever anywhere and it feels like there is very little compresion to begin with.I can wind it over quite easily on the crank handle.
Can someone with a bit more grey matter on the subject please explain it to me.
I am trying to decide if it is worth repairing or to give it a ticket on the slow boat to China. Even though it was given to me , it still cost about $450 to get it home.
Any help Greatly appreciated

You could also check if any valves are stuck by having a quick peek under those rocker covers. We had a trailer mounted air compressor powered by a little Deutz. It was a real pain to start, but once she was going, she'd run all day. Although in this case, I think it had Murphy problems.
A genny like that would be worth its weight in gold up here. Equipment like that is very popular amongst harvesting crews. I know an air compressor can get about $- $ not running.

Like dieseldog said check the valves, while the covers are off oil the rockers. My suggestion is maybe valves & seats are rusty or rings lack of compression. If u dont wont to remove injectors just remove the intake manifold & squirt oil in the cylinders, while turning it over. Pls don't send it to China - I would be interested.Kel

Even if it needs rebuilding I am building up my collection of Deutz engines. I have a V10, two V8s, straight 4, and a single. I don't have as big a collection as Kel, but if you give up on it I am in Sydney and would be happy to cover that $450 for it just the way it is, complete in trailer of course. This year Deutz is 150yrs old. We even made sure that this year our Clarendon Classic Machinery Rally has Deutz as one of our themes. It's at Hawkesbury Showground, Sept 20 and 21. Be great if you could get it going and bring it to the rally. Kind Regards Last edit: 11 years 2 months ago by Soft-Hearted-Scotsman.
